The Hope of Christmas

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

– Isaiah 9:6

As Christ followers, we take heart in a world full of trouble because we have ultimate hope, the hope of Christmas. We rest with assurance that the Prince of Peace gave up His rights and humbled Himself to come as a helpless baby so that He could pay the price for our sins – a debt we never could pay ourselves.

When sin entered the world in the garden, everything changed. Brokenness exists as the perfect world the Lord created groans for redemption. We see the effects of sin and hopelessness of which orphans, vulnerable women, and vulnerable children are a byproduct. However, this hopelessness will not last forever, because the Everlasting Father sent His only Son to restore our hope and give us the promise of ultimate redemption. The restorative work we do with women, children, and families is a foretaste of the ultimate redemption we will experience when our Mighty God restores this broken creation and redeems it for His ultimate glory.

As the family of God living daily with the hope of Christmas, we can share our hope with a broken and needy world. Our Wonderful Counselor guides us moment by moment as we seek the restoration of peace and the redemption for all that was broken. Lifeline clings to this gospel hope this Christmas. As 2023 comes to a close and we look with eager anticipation to what 2024 holds, we remember the bedrock truth that God is always faithful to His Word. He is the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace not only at Christmas but every single day. May the Lord fill your Christmas season with continuous hope, a hope you can rely on until we are finally at home with Him.

Merry Christmas!
