Lifeline Children’s Services Applauds Mississippi’s New Pro-Life, Pro-Family Policies

April 20, 2023, BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Lifeline Children’s Services on Thursday congratulated Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves for signing several pro-family policies into law.

Among the state’s new policies are an income tax credit for qualified adoption expenses; an expansion of the tax credit for pregnancy resource centers; an expansion of safe haven laws; the creation of a foster parents “bill of rights”; and the creation of the Mississippi Task Force on Foster Care and Adoption.

Herbie Newell, President and Executive Director of Lifeline Children’s Services, issued the following statement on Thursday:

“A truly pro-life culture ensures that vulnerable women and children are supported, cared for, and given the opportunity to thrive, and these new policies do just that. We commend Gov. Reeves and all the legislators  who sponsored these life-affirming policies for their pro-life leadership.

“What we at Lifeline have found is that both the government and the Church have roles to play for couples looking to adopt and women looking to go through the adoption process. Often those at all points in the adoption continuum just don’t know about the benefits and resources available to them. For those couples who want to adopt or foster, but feel overwhelmed by the process, our hope is that these new policies in Mississippi encourage them to make the life-affirming decisions they want to make.”
