Understanding The Process

Here are some common questions and answers we hear from parents.

Contact your local Sioux Falls Lifeline Children’s Services at 605-951-1178 or complete this form.

Lifeline staff will conduct an assessment to ensure this program is the right fit for your family and will work on connecting you with help.

Harbor Families is able to assist families experiencing a variety of situations:

  • Loss of housing or employment
  • Financial problems
  • Sudden hospitalization
  • Postpartum depression
  • Substance use treatment

Through Harbor Families you will be matched with a volunteer Host Family based on your family’s needs. The host family will care for your children as you work through your situation.

You will also be matched with a coach that will provide support along your journey.

During the program you will be connected with a volunteer coach/navigator and a host/Harbor Family who will care for your child(ren) for the agreed amount of time.

This is a voluntary program and you may take your children out of a hosting at any time.

You will have contact with the volunteers and your children throughout the hosting. We highly encourage consistent contact with the volunteers and your children.
