Lifeline’s Eurasia program is currently accepting applications for the countries of Ukraine, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, and a new country coming soon!

What’s new in your program? Our Eurasia countries had a spectacular 2016 with 40 children coming home and we are off to an exciting start in 2017. With eight countries in our program, we can always expect new and exciting changes such as Kyrgyzstan becoming a Hague country, younger children being available in Hungary and Bulgaria, and one of our newer programs—Macedonia—having our first pilot family. We are also very excited about announcing a new country program very soon!

What do you want to tell families interested in adoption? We are extremely passionate about our countries and our on-the-ground team members, who are dedicated to serving our families well. We work diligently to build lifelong relationships with each family and provide constant support before, during, and after the adoption process. We need mission-minded families for younger children, older children, sibling groups, and children with mild to moderate special needs.

What is one unique factor or differentiating factor about your program? Adopting from these countries is not easy, as these cultures tend to be cold and less relational. Children from these parts of the world may have had less-than-ideal care, as they have lived in institutions or foster homes that do not exhibit characteristics of a loving family. The Roma population, particularly, is an unreached people group who are discriminated against in their own countries. We are thankful for families who pursue these beautiful children who are considered second-class citizens in their country of origin.

What special considerations should families know about when considering your program? Depending on the country program, families could stay in country as long as 6 to 8 weeks, and some countries require multiple trips with shorter stays each trip. Although some countries require longer stays, the required bonding time is amazing for the child and the family unit as a whole: families are focused on their children and not concerned about what is going on in their day-to-day lives at home.
