As general manager of IBM Watson Media and Weather, Cameron Clayton oversees a portfolio of cognitive businesses within IBM, including Watson Advertising, Watson Media, and The Weather Company. These businesses creates decision support offerings and enterprise IoT solutions for a number of industries and marketers, including aviation, transportation, retail, insurance, media, energy & utilities, oil & gas, consumer packaged goods, quick service restaurants and more. Clayton was most recently CEO and general manager of The Weather Company, where he oversaw the company’s valuable portfolio of consumer products and digital businesses including The Weather Channel® (weather.com) and Weather Underground (wunderground.com) as well as the business solutions unit. The product portfolio includes the No. 1 weather application on all major platforms, a top-20 website, the world’s largest network of personal weather stations, and top solutions for industries such as aviation, energy, insurance, media and more. Clayton was instrumental in orchestrating IBM’s acquisition of The Weather Company in 2015. Clayton joined Weather in 2004 as manager of business development, developing distribution relationships for weather.com, and has risen through the digital ranks since then. Before the IBM acquisition in 2016, Clayton served as president of the product and technology division of The Weather Company, seeking opportunities, accelerating growth and building products our daily users – both professional and consumer – love. Clayton previously served as president of digital product, focusing on The Weather Channel and Weather Underground brands. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of mobile and digital applications, where under his leadership, The Weather Channel mobile product line became a recognized industry leader and one of the top app developers in any category. He also served as vice president of business development, responsible for all distribution relationships for Web and mobile products and content. Prior to joining Weather, Clayton was director of sales and marketing for a regional Internet service provider and a director of business development for MSN in New Zealand. Clayton serves on the Ad Council board of directors, the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) board, and also participates in several other digital industry groups. A native of New Zealand, Clayton has been in the United States since 2001 and lives in Atlanta with his family.
