Lawmakers Push for Action on Delayed Adoptions from China – Lifeline Responds

March 18, 2025: Over the weekend, a bipartisan group of lawmakers brought a critical issue to President Trump’s attention regarding the uncertain future of children in Chinese orphanages.
Lifeline Children’s Services played a key role in drafting the letter and ensuring it was delivered to the President. In response to these efforts, Lifeline President and Executive Director Herbie Newell released the following statement.
“Lifeline is humbled to represent 48 families currently waiting to complete adoptions from China. We are profoundly grateful to the Congress members championing this cause and working tirelessly to bring it to the President’s attention.
On behalf of these families and the children desperately awaiting a permanent, loving home, we urge President Trump to raise this critical issue with President Xi Jinping at their next meeting.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking pain these families feel, knowing that children who have already been matched with a family are still growing up in an orphanage instead of in a loving home.
The United States has long been a beacon of hope for orphaned children around the world. We cannot abandon this ideal now. Denying these children the chance to join a family so late in the adoption process would be a profound injustice.”
