For 42 years, Lifeline Children’s Services has been providing gospel hope to vulnerable children, women, and families in Birmingham. Lifeline is a holistic ministry that seeks to bring hope through international and domestic adoption, pregnancy counseling, foster care, family reunification, global orphan care, and education and counseling. Lifeline carries the distinction of being the largest evangelical adoption agency in the United States. Lifeline serves families in all 50 states through international adoption with programs in 19 countries. In addition, Lifeline is licensed in 19 states and works in 29 countries through its various orphan care projects. Lifeline has created a strong legacy for future generations by engaging in family partnerships, educating women to know life-giving options, and finding avenues to bring hope to children and families around the world. Lifeline casts its net wide in ministry but also has planted its roots deep in the countries and communities in which it serves. Reflecting on decades of faithful ministry, it’s clear that Lifeline has always been about more than providing resources – it’s about providing hope. Lifeline believes that as they help churches and families care for vulnerable children and families, lives are changed, and story after story of hope is born.
Lifeline By The Numbers
Our History
Lifeline was founded in 1981 to meet the needs of women in unplanned pregnancies. Lifeline walks alongside these women with support and focuses on the needs and decisions of each woman before, during, and after the birth of her child. In 2000, Lifeline expanded its outreach to include international adoption, developing a China International Adoption Program. In 2003, Ukraine was added, and in 2004, Guatemala was added. Each year additional countries have been added, and now Lifeline is presently involved in 19 countries. In addition, Lifeline is licensed in 19 states and works in 29 countries through its various orphan care projects. Today, Lifeline’s services include pregnancy counseling, domestic and international adoption, foster care, education and counseling, and global orphan care. Lifeline has placed more than 3,000 orphaned children into loving Christian homes and ministered to over 3,000 women in crisis. Lifeline seeks to make an investment in the lives of children, mothers in the wake of crisis, families wanting the blessing of a child, and orphans around the globe needing a home in which they can see and hear the gospel.
How We Bring Gospel Hope To The World
We guide individuals and churches with the following ministries:
Adoption
We believe adoption is one way God provides families for vulnerable children who need to know the love of Christ, and the love of family. We desire to walk alongside Christian missional families through the adoption journey and provide them with resources as they love, nurture, and disciple their children. Lifeline offers three tracks for adoption through our services: International, Domestic, and Foster Care Adoption. If you or someone you know is considering adoption, please explore our website for more information or contact us at [email protected] or (205) 967-0811.
Global Orphan Care
While adoption is a beautiful response to God’s command to care for the fatherless, most children considered orphans will never be adopted. In 2009, (un)adopted ® was born with the vision to reach children labeled as “unadoptable” with the hope of the gospel. This work takes shape through equipping caregivers with the knowledge of holistic care, providing children with job and life skills training, and serving alongside the local church already ministering to the vulnerable in their area.
Pregnancy Counseling and Services
At Lifeline, we help women in unexpected and traumatic pregnancies explore their options with the goal of balancing what’s best for her and her child. Women who contact Lifeline will receive a trained advocate who will be there every step of the way through pregnancy. Through our maternity home, Lifeline provides safe housing for expectant mothers, and with our Women’s Resource Center in Kansas we provide free ultrasound and options counseling services. Outside of Kansas, we partner with Pregnancy Resource Centers around the country to provide care for women wherever they may be. Our team truly cares about these women and their futures.
Education and Counseling
Lifeline’s Education & Counseling team believes families are God’s designed place for nurturing and facilitating health in children so they can flourish. We exist to support adoptive families, foster families, and others with cutting-edge techniques filtered through a biblical worldview. We seek to strengthen families and, in turn, influence a child’s environment.
Family Restoration Programs
Lifeline’s Family Restoration ministries equip families and the local church to provide support and education to families who have experienced foster care or are at risk of separation. Lifeline provides Foster Care training for families wanting to provide care. Through Families Count, local churches have a platform to mentor and train parents at risk of being separated, or who have already been separated, from their children. Heritage Builders prepares churches to minister to children aging out of foster care both practically and spiritually by providing advocates in one-on-one relationships, life-readiness trainings, and connections to resources. Harbor Families provides temporary care for vulnerable children and tangible support to families facing issues like social isolation, homelessness, and rehabilitation.
