We are currently seeing families matched with children 4-5 years old and older who have minor to moderate medical needs and developmental delay. We are also seeing sibling groups of 2-3 children.

The central authority, Ministry of Culture and Innovation, provides referrals to Lifeline periodically to be shared with families. When Lifeline receives the referral, the team will review the chronological list of families currently in the program. Next a determination of the best fit for the child based on openness to gender, age and needs and capacity of the family will be made. Families will then have an opportunity to review the file and request the official referral. Families are eligible to match after their home study is approved, however is it likely they will not receive  the official referral until after their dossier is complete and registered.

The process of adopting from Hungary is estimated to take approximately 2-4 years and depends on a family’s openness to gender, age and needs.

Families will travel to Hungary for approximately 45 days to complete their adoption. The trip consists of a 7 day visitation period and 30 day bonding period while the child is in care of the adoptive family. During the bonding period the family will attend a court date and complete visa paperwork. Lifeline has an amazing in-country team who walks alongside families each step of the way and provides support during your stay in Hungary. The in-country team provides transportation to important appointments during your stay.
