Bulgaria has the highest child poverty rate in Europe, with more than half of the country’s children living in or at risk of poverty. This widespread economic hardship is a primary factor driving children into the government care system. There is a growing need for advocacy, awareness, and support around foster care and adoption. Global Orphan Care currently partners with one like-minded ministry actively serving vulnerable children and families in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria Without Orphans (BWO) is committed to seeing every child in Bulgaria grow up in a safe, loving, and supportive family. They believe children thrive when given the opportunity to develop their gifts and reach their full potential within the stability of a family environment. Founded in 2021, BWO began with a small group of dedicated individuals—both in Bulgaria and around the world—united by a shared vision to see orphans and vulnerable children cared for in families rather than institutions.
BWO organizes trainings and conferences for families, child protection professionals, and government staff, equipping them to better care for vulnerable children. Partnering with local churches, BWO hosts these events and helps recruit, encourage, and support Bulgarian foster and adoptive families.
Pray that Bulgarian churches and pastors would respond to the biblical call to care for vulnerable children and families in crisis. Ask God to raise up more Bulgarian leaders to join the work of BWO and to bring continued growth to the movement. Pray for BWO to boldly share the gospel as they serve, standing as one of the few Christian organizations ministering in this space within Bulgaria.
