Why the Church?
“The gospel of Christ shows believers that we are not the rescuers of these children – we are the rescued. We have so lavishly been loved by Christ in our despair and rescued from our sin. As a result, we are compelled to care for the orphan, the widow, the poor, the needy, and the alien.”
Herbie Newell, Executive Director
The Church is “Plan A” for glorifying God, making disciples, and spreading His name to the nations, and there are many ways that, as Christ’s Bride, the Church accomplishes this mission. Throughout the narrative of Scripture, God has consistently commanded His people to care for the vulnerable as a way of demonstrating His character and His gospel to the world. We believe that every Christ follower has a role to care for orphans, widows, and the defenseless as an avenue to proclaim the gospel.
At Lifeline, we hold high the truth that the Church is the Bride of Christ, and we want to serve the Bride as a bridesmaid by coming alongside local churches to resource them to proclaim the gospel through care for orphans and vulnerable children. Whether it be through adoption, fostering, orphan care, or education and counseling, our mission is accomplished when we help churches to live out James 1:27 in their communities and to the ends of the earth.
Engage with Lifeline
Host an Adoption Information Meeting.
Whether in-person or through a web conference, our team can meet with prospective adoptive families in your congregation who are interested in learning about the next steps towards domestic or international adoption.
Hold a 6-week Support Group for Adoptive and Foster Families.
Connecting with other adoptive and foster parents allows space to build relationships, offer advice, and share the adoption and foster care journey. Use our free guide to implement a group at your church.
Equipped to Love.
Offer an in-house training to learn how to care well for adoptive and foster families within your church. This free downloadable training provides all of the videos and tools needed to conduct a training for volunteers, friends, and family members.
Host Families Count™.
Families Count is a 6-week Biblically based, state approved parent program for families who have lost their children to the foster care system. By providing a meeting space, a meal, transportation, and mentors, the church has a unique role to step into the lives of hurting families as they seek reconciliation with their children.
Partner with (un)adopted®.
Come alongside one of our strategic orphan care partners or indigenous church partners. Explore opportunities to take a trip, change a community, or care for those who may never be adopted.
Advocate for Waiting Children.
Advocating for waiting children all over the world is a very necessary piece of orphan care and a way that anyone can help find Christian, forever families for children in need. Advocacy involves sharing information about a specific child available for adoption in your circles of influence.
Become a Prayer Partner.
Connect your church’s prayer ministry to pray for orphans and for the needs/requests shared by Lifeline. Join our prayer call for 15 minutes every month.
Partner through a Church-Wide Initiative.
Take a Sunday or use one of your church programs to emphasize missions and educate the Body about orphan care and the gospel.
