Fighting the Orphan Crisis with Sustainable Solutions

Lifeline Children’s Services will host its 7th annual R(un) For One 5K on Saturday, September 8th at 8 AM at locations across the nation. R(un) For One benefits Lifeline’s (un)adopted sector. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the run will go towards (un)adopted’s work in 13 countries to reach orphaned and vulnerable children with the hope of the gospel and equip them with the life skills needed to bring about community transformation.

“It’s so much more than just your average 5K,” said Neisha Roberts, Lifeline’s (un)adopted Coordinator. “You’re changing the course of a child’s life by ascribing value to their story, giving them an opportunity to have a successful future, and ultimately transforming their community at large.”

With approximately 153 million orphans worldwide, only 0.5 percent will have the opportunity for international adoption. This means that care for orphans has to extend beyond adoption. (un)adopted empowers the local church and community to care for the fatherless and invest in a sustainable solution that will end the cycle of vulnerable children. This branch of Lifeline’s ministry seeks to holistically care for these children in their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

“My favorite component of the R(un) is that anyone who wants to participate can, under the R(un) Where You Are model,” said Austin Hardison, Director of Development at Lifeline Children’s Services. “The format of a 5K is great to get your whole family, neighborhood, classmates, church or even office involved in a cause you are passionate about.”

R(un) For One has locations in Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, Pace, FL, Topeka, KS, Belmont, NC, Mount Pleasant, SC, and Chattanooga, TN. Runners may also choose the R(un) Where You Are location to participate from anywhere in the world.
