Lifeline Urges Policymakers to Prohibit Medicaid Funding to Abortion Providers

July 22, 2026: We are disappointed that a permanent prohibition on Medicaid funding for abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood was omitted from Republicans’ reconciliation 3.0 framework.

While recent efforts demonstrated that many policymakers recognize the need to prevent taxpayer dollars from supporting the abortion industry, this issue has yet to receive the lasting attention it deserves. Every human life is created with inherent dignity and worth, and our laws should reflect that truth by protecting both mothers and their unborn children.

We urge the White House, Speaker Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and congressional leaders to make permanent legislation prohibiting Medicaid funding for abortion providers a priority. The omission of this provision from the reconciliation framework is a missed opportunity, but it does not have to be the final word.

Lifeline stands ready to work with policymakers to advance permanent legislation that ensures taxpayer dollars are directed toward organizations that care for women, strengthen families, and uphold the dignity of every human life through compassionate, life-affirming care.
