Lifeline Children’s Services Releases “What is a Family”
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., March 2, 2026 — Lifeline Children’s Services has released a new children’s workbook titled What Is a Family. Authored by Lynn Beckett and Angela Mains, the faith-based, therapeutic resource is designed to help children explore what it means to belong, connect, and grow within a family—especially when joining a new one.
Created with warmth, clarity, and clinical insight, What Is a Family supports children who have experienced transitions such as adoption, foster care, kinship placement, or guardianship. Through guided prompts and engaging activities, children are invited to draw, reflect, identify emotions, share their experiences, and practice healthy ways to express their feelings.
“What Is a Family grew out of the work of a team that supports families in the post-adoption journey,” said Angela Mains, co-author of What Is a Family and Senior Director of Counseling and Coaching at Lifeline Children’s Services. “Through this work, we saw that many children enter families without fully understanding what ‘family’ means or where they belong.”
“Rooted in the belief that God places people in families with purpose and care, Lynn and I wanted to create a playful and engaging resource that helps children explore the mixed and often complicated feelings that can come with becoming part of a new family, regardless of how that change happens,” Mains added.
What Is a Family is available for purchase on Amazon.
