Texas Case Worker

Location: Houston, TX

Status: Full-time

Position Summary: 

Counsels clients concerning the options they have regarding an unplanned pregnancy, including factual information about each option, helping to develop an adoption plan if desired, preparing for the adoption process, and connecting with resources if no longer desiring to choose adoption. Also, establishes initial contact with prospective adoptive families for the Domestic and International programs. Works with prospective adoptive families in processing a domestic or international adoption. Networks in the community with potential referral sources by building relationships and conducting trainings. 

Responsibilities: 

Casework: 

  • To be a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ to co-workers, clients and ministry partners 
  • Helps recruit, enroll, maintain, and work with prospective adoptive parents in assigned coverage area in processing an international or domestic adoption 
  • Working with prospective adoptive families in assigned coverage area throughout the adoption process and conducting home assessments which includes: 4 to 5 interview sessions with the couple, including individual interviews; conducting a home tour; ensuring all paperwork is up to date and in compliance with regulations and agency standards; educating and preparing the family for domestic or international adoption, birth parent ministry, and trans-racial adoption (if applicable); maintaining communication with the family throughout the process; and conducting post-placement/supervisory visits after placement of a child with a family. 
  • Counseling clients/families on the nature of international adoption. 
  • Completing home assessments for contract couples in assigned coverage area as assigned and needed. 

 

Pregnancy Counselor: 

  • Initial contact and meeting(s) with client in assigned coverage area 
  • Maintaining regular contacts with client in assigned coverage area to provide counseling during and after delivery, including facilitating a good working relationship with the client. 
  • Counseling clients in assigned coverage area concerning the options they have regarding their pregnancy and adoption plan. Counseling sometimes includes additional family members and support system. 
  • Providing the client the means for spiritual growth, including sharing the Gospel, discipleship, and continued spiritual encouragement in a non-threatening way. 
  • Assisting the client in obtaining resources, including prenatal care, health insurance, and other individual needs. 
  • Obtaining information concerning the putative father and his feelings about the situation. In some cases, counseling the putative father regarding the adoption, which includes signing paperwork 
  • Explaining to the client the legal process of terminating parental rights and respecting her right to withdraw her relinquishments if within the legal period allowed. 
  • Visiting client in the hospital after delivery to have mother sign adoption paperwork. Arranging for child’s discharge from the hospital and placement into interim care or the adoptive home.  
  • Serving as a liaison with interim home pertaining to the progress of each child under the worker’s care, including the child’s progress, medical information, doctor’s visits, and other relevant information. 
  • Communicating with attorney regarding legal matters and specific case needs. 
  • Maintaining detailed records of client contacts, including case notes, assessments, court documents, legal papers, time sheets, medical and family history, and other required paperwork. 
  • Providing post-adoption counseling for birth parents  
  • Intentionally connecting with referral sources in assigned coverage area on a regular basis. This includes first time contacts, conducting trainings regarding the adoption process, sending thank yous and building rapport. 
  • Sharing responsibility of ministry’s after-hours emergency line.

Secondary Responsibilities: 

  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for the purpose of transporting a baby, car seat, and other related equipment.  
  • Assisting in agency-related events, including the annual staff retreat, the annual banquet and anniversary celebrations both international and domestic. 
  • Maintaining good relationships with co-workers, including solving all disputes in a Biblically prescribed fashion.   
  • Representing the Agency in a professional manner in and away from the office.   
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work 
  • Bachelor, graduate or clinical social work license from applicable state licensing Board preferred

Work Environment: 

  • Home Office environment

State Specific Requirements: 

  • Must meet state minimum standards for licensure, certifications (if any) and annual continuing educational requirements if applicable 
  • Social Work license from applicable state licensing Board, if required. 
  • Complete annual training/CEU’s as determined by State regulations and Hague requirements, whichever is greater.
