Counseling Internship

Work in a team atmosphere serving families who have adopted or are fostering. Lifeline’s counseling team specializes in serving those who have experienced trauma and disrupted attachment. Our counselors are trained in a variety of modalities including TheraPlay, EMDR, TF-CBT, CBT, and play therapy. They are also facilitators for Prepare/Enrich, and are skilled in treating other adoption and foster care related concerns. A bi-monthly clinical staffing is also available and open to interns.

Educational Services Internship

Opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the brain and how it impacts learning. As an intern, you will assist the Bridge Educational Services team with implementing Bridge Plans, administrative duties, development, and preparing for our summer camp, Camp Empower. Our team is trained in cognitive fitness programs, primitive reflex integration and social-emotional tools, and techniques.

Church Based Programs

Position Summary:  Our Church-Based Programs – Families Count, Heritage Builders, and Worthy – are implemented by local churches that are trained and supported by Lifeline. Through the programs, our team offers indirect services to vulnerable populations, including parents with child welfare involvement, teens aging out of foster care, and women who have experienced unexpected pregnancy. As an intern, you will assist program leads with administrative tasks, such as outreach to church partners, data collection and input, coordination of local church trainings/conferences, and other miscellaneous duties. You may also have opportunity to observe a Families Count or Heritage Builders class locally. Location: Birmingham, AL Majors that would apply:  These majors are suggested as a reference, you will still be considered if you apply with a different major.

Foster Care

Assist trainers and social workers with foster parent training classes which includes weekly preparation, monitoring weekly assignments, and observing the classes. Interns will also shadow social workers during home visits, attend weekly staff meetings, and assist with filing and the auditing of family files.

International Program

Shadow home study visits and assist in drafting reports; assist with information meetings for families interested in adopting; attend staff and team meetings and help with other projects (resource manuals, educational videos, community resources). You may also work on preparing dossiers for submission to foreign governments, working with the Department of State and US Embassies. Research trends in childhood trauma, institutionalization and attachment issues.

Pregnancy Counseling

As an intern working with the pregnancy counseling team, you will assist the pregnancy counseling and domestic team with administrative duties, paperwork, case noting, networking with partners, events, and case management tasks. Interns will likely have the opportunity to engage in direct practice with women from minority people groups and various socioeconomic backgrounds. *Please note that the pregnancy counseling role is sensitive in nature and is often times working with women who have experienced trauma. Shadowing opportunities will vary based on the counselor’s case load.

Global Orphan Care

Work with our Global Orphan Care team to help organize and prepare child sponsorship information and reports. Assist the team as they prepare curriculum and other resources to equip the Body of Christ across the globe. You’ll also help prepare for an upcoming Orphan Care Summit and brainstorm and plan for our annual R(un) for One event.

Heritage Builders

As an intern working with Heritage Builders, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a new ministry arm of Lifeline that supports older youth as they transition from foster care to independence. If you have a mind that enjoys research and implementing new ideas, a heart that is compassionate toward adolescents struggling with a traumatic background but deserve a promising future, and energy to work with leaders from churches, government, and the community, then this may be the right fit. Also included will be administrative and program implementation assignments.

Church Engagement

You will have the opportunity to serve local churches and other Lifeline ministry partners. You will help to resource and equip these partners to care for orphans and vulnerable children in a variety of ways. Interns will assist in the development and implementation of resources for national campaigns such as Orphan Sunday, Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, Stand for Orphans, and Mission Kid. This internship is designed to help students preparing for local church leadership through pastoral ministry or parachurch ministry leadership.

Development & Fundraising

Help coordinate events in Birmingham and support events in our state offices. Includes reaching out to local businesses and partners, working with committee members, and recruiting volunteers. Interns will also be responsible for researching partnership opportunities, connecting with new potential donors, exploring methods of stewardship and donor appreciation, and raising awareness of Lifeline’s ministry in the community.

Education & Equipping

Through faith-based resources, training, and practical tools, we empower communities to create meaningful change in the lives of those in need. As part of our Education Team, you will contribute to creating impactful learning experiences and resources for churches, volunteers, and caregivers, helping them better serve vulnerable populations.

Position Overview

The Education Team Intern will support the creation, organization, and delivery of educational content, tools, and resources. This internship is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in curriculum development, learning management systems, and nonprofit program support, while making a difference in communities and ultimately in the lives of those we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Content Development: Assist in creating and editing curriculum, lesson plans, and training materials for churches, families, and volunteers.
  • Resource Organization: Help organize and maintain a library of resources and materials for easy accessibility by staff and partners.
  • Learning Management System (LMS): Support the management of our LMS, including uploading content, testing courses, and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Research & Analysis: Conduct research on best practices in education, trauma-informed care, and community support, incorporating findings into curriculum and resources.
  • Engagement Support: Help prepare materials for webinars, workshops, and other training events.
  • Feedback Collection: Assist in gathering and analyzing feedback from program participants to inform improvements to educational materials.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Education Team and other departments to ensure alignment with organizational goals and mission.

Graphic Design

Interns work on the Marketing team alongside the graphic design manager to create visual concepts to communication information.

Human Resources

Interns assist the Human Resources office by planning and researching different aspects of the ministry such as staff training and development, employer-employee relations, company culture, internal communications, and safe work environment. Experience will be gained in planning, projects, development, and more.

Marketing & Communications

Interns will assist with implementing a comprehensive strategy for marketing Lifeline’s primary ministry aspects. You’ll gain exposure to developing content calendars, social media strategy, digital marketing, marketing campaigns, branding/design, and data entry. You’ll have the ability to learn or experience organizational databases, public relations, merchandising, marketing analysis, and a wide variety of communications mediums (print, social, magazine, podcast, email, etc.).

What we’re looking for: 

  • Social Media Guru- familiar with current social networking trends and has the ability to creatively present content. 
  • Marketing and Communications Interest- enjoys learning about marketing and communications strategy and desires to help implement new approaches.
  • Digital and Print Media Coordination- give input into the design and implementation of new marketing pieces, and assist in placing orders and prepping print to send to other offices.
  • Online Media- desire to learn to assist our team in implementing online media such as webinars, blogs, website edits, and more. 

Information Technology

::Birmingham ONLY::  IT interns assist in troubleshooting computer and/or software issues, setting up computers and phones, administration of Office 365, the wireless network, and a VOIP phone system. A-V interns will work to film, edit, and provide graphics for training programs for adoptive parents and social service professionals.

Non-Profit Business Management

This internship helps support the executive directors office to focus on the organization’s day-to-day operations and funding. They help with daily tasks which may consist of research, projects, strategic planning, communication and collaboration for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that align with the organization’s mission and goals.
