When a crisis strikes, many of us rely on relatives and friends for support. For some families, poverty and social isolation mean that they have no support when needed. Often, a straightforward problem — such as postpartum depression or unemployment — can be debilitating. Children in these situations often suffer neglect or abuse; and some are eventually placed in state custody. Harbor Families provides a chance for parents to get back on their feet and to be connected with a local church for support while having short-term care provided for children.
Harbor Families is a ministry driven by the local church that provides short-term care for children of families experiencing a crisis. Our mission is to equip churches to love these families well and prayerfully see families move from a state of crisis and isolation, to being more stable and within a supportive community of Christ-followers. We envision communities being transformed by the gospel of Jesus through the work of the local church in these redemptive relationships with families.
With our holistic approach, local churches and volunteer host families come alongside vulnerable families, meet them where they are, and offer support through short-term care, resources, and connection to community in the Body of Christ. The ultimate goal of Harbor Families is to point families toward Christ as their hope with a focus on family restoration and reunification.
