Lifeline’s Ecuador Program is considered a pilot program as Lifeline has not yet seen a child come home from this country. We expect most children who are eligible for international adoption from Ecuador will be 4 years old or older. These children may have a range of medical needs. We do expect to see children eligible for adoption who are under age 4, and these children will likely either be a part of a sibling group with older children or have moderate to significant medical special needs. Traditionally, young children with minor needs are placed with Ecuadorian families through Ecuador’s domestic adoption program.
Lifeline may learn about children who are eligible and waiting for adoption and present these files to families or advocate for these children. Many waiting children will be older, larger sibling groups, or have more significant medical special needs. All matches occur after a dossier is approved by MIES; however, families can submit a letter at any time to the central authority with intent to pursue a child on the wait list. Families may also wait for a referral from the central authority after their dossier is approved. This is the likely track for families who are more limited in their openness to age range, medical special needs, or sibling groups.
The process of adopting from Ecuador is estimated to take approximately 2-3 or more years and depends on a family’s openness to age range, special needs and sibling groups.
Families will travel to Ecuador for approximately eight to ten weeks to complete their adoption. The trip consists of a bonding period, court process, and visa paperwork. Lifeline has a knowledgeable and experienced in-country team who will walk alongside families each step of the way and provide support during the stay in Ecuador. The in-country team also provides translation and guide services during families’ stay.
About Ecuador
Lifeline Children’s Services is honored to be newly licensed and accredited to serve children and families through international adoption in Ecuador. This expansion reflects our commitment to bringing the hope of a forever family to more vulnerable children around the world. As our 20th international program, Ecuador opens new doors for gospel-driven care in South America. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to begin working with local organizations and authorities in Ecuador to advocate for children who are waiting.
The Need
Ecuador maintains a strong domestic adoption program, and many young children with minor needs are matched with Ecuadorian families. However, children who are older, part of sibling groups, or who have moderate to significant medical needs often wait much longer for a permanent home. These children deserve the stability, safety, and love of a Christ-centered family—and Lifeline is committed to advocating on their behalf.
How You Can Help
At the launch in 2025, Lifeline is seeking 10 pilot families to join us in launching the Ecuador program. Through this opportunity, we are exclusively advocating for the international adoption of children who are older, part of a sibling group, or have moderate to significant special needs. Families who are open to stepping into these stories of redemption will be guided and supported by our experienced team every step of the way—including a dedicated in-country team in Ecuador.
