November 9, 2018 rachelmiley
We have amazing news! This year, we had the privilege of hosting 10 children from Colombia when they visited the USA for Lifeline’s Kids Camp. Five of the children have found forever families already, but five of these precious children are still in need of families. They are currently back in Colombia, and it is our joy to advocate for

They Are Seen - Colombia Kids Camp 2017

November 13, 2017 rachelmiley
Colombia Kids Camp brought a taste of being seen and also served as a reminder to me—I long for more. I long for every one of these kids to know the unchanging, steady love of the Father and a family. It matters.  For me to be a part of kids camp meant that I would in some small way say that I see these kids and I will never forget . . . for each one of their hearts and mine.  Join me in hoping and remembering!

The World at Our Doorstep

August 2, 2017 rachelmiley
Opening Doors In October 2017, I moved to Bogota, Colombia to coordinate our Latin America programs. As Coordinator, Lifeline encouraged me to travel to Colombia in 2011 to better learn the country, the culture, and the children. It changed my life, and now I cannot believe I have the privilege to call this beautiful country

Kids Worth Fighting For

April 4, 2017 lifeline
When we first met our son in China, he thought it was HILARIOUS to slap my husband in the face. As first time parents, we didn’t have any friends whose experiences as first-time parents included their newborn slapping them with glee, so this was new territory. Furthermore, he despised my very presence, which created some

Glimpse of Heaven | March Kids Camp 2017

March 21, 2017 lifeline
I caught a glimpse of what heaven will be like at Pump It Up this week. Yeah, I know what you are probably thinking: Allison, your version of heaven and my version do not match. Letting loose eleven Chinese speaking orphans all under the age of 12 in a room full of inflatables is not

My Adoption Story Is No Prettier Than Yours | Lifeline Kids Camp 2017

March 14, 2017 international
A Dad’s Perspective Four days into Kid’s Camp, and this dad is still emotionally processing. That’s what us guys do. We process. Slowly. (Yes! We can process emotions! It just takes us longer.) Women can go straight to “emotion-land” like we men to “fix-it-land.” It’s in their wiring. I’m wired for analysis, logic, and a

March 14, 2017 international
Day three of Kids Camp is in the books, and man, was it one to remember! We started the day at Pump It Up, where the kids had a grand ole time on the bounce houses. We then went to lunch and tasted the quintessential American meal: cheeseburgers and fries. Afterwards was nap time and

"Pick Me Up" | Lifeline Kids Camp March 2017

March 9, 2017 rachelmiley
“Ethan” is one of 11 children who I believe God divinely chose to bring to Lifeline’s Kids Camp from China. According to an article published by CNN August 12, 2015, “The Chinese government has said there are roughly 600,000 orphans nationwide. Other groups put the nationwide number at closer to a million orphans.” Either way, the fact that Ethan is here right now is pretty miraculous…..the odds were against him.

It was such a blessing to help with Kids Camp yesterday. As I write this, a plane is taking off from Detroit carrying 11 children and three adults on the last few hours of their journey from Chongqing, China to Birmingham, Alabama. As we anxiously await the arrival of our guests, I doubt they know what it has taken to get them here. They probably don’t know

Why I Donated to Lifeline's Kids Camp

Why did I donate to Lifeline’s Kids Camp? Because they had me with their SMILES! The smiles of the children when they chase bubbles across the lawn; The smiles of the children when they climb up in the volunteers lap and snuggle close; The smiles of the children when they are the center of attention

It Takes a Village | Summer Kids Camp 2016

As I head home after a mere 36 hours at Kids Camp, I can’t help but stand in awe of the body of Christ at work… the body of Christ radiantly displayed in the life of 8 precious little girls from China. Part of my to-do list at camp today included enlisting the help of

Redeemed Hope |Summer Kids Camp 2016: Day 6

July 5, 2016 rachelmiley
I have started a draft for this blog three different times. Needless to say, I have many thoughts after my two days at Kids Camp. I could tell you about the medical visits or the trip to the Children’s Museum. Or I could share about the joy that came from water day and the Easter celebration. But none of that seems sufficient to share about my two days at Kids Camp.

The Church Responding (Summer Kid's Camp '16: Day 3)

June 29, 2016 rachelmiley
Yesterday I had the extreme privilege of spending the day with eight precious girls from China. As a social worker with Lifeline, this was not the first time I have served at Kids Camp, but this year was different. This year, the church that I attend decided to take on a day of Kids Camp. This might not sound like a big thing to you, but to our church, this was huge.

Meet Kindra (March Kids Camp '16)

During my time volunteering at Kids Camp I got to meet so many amazing, sweet kids.  I really connected with one particular girl, Kindra, which I believe happened because I saw a lot of my tendencies in her.  Like me, Kindra was more on the shy side and didn’t talk much. We easily fell into
