The Gift of Mobility

July 29, 2016 lifeline
As a pediatric physical therapist I have the honor and privilege of witnessing milestones in the lives of children. Sometimes we celebrate what seems like little things to other people but, for a parent, these milestones are a big deal—like a child who is three years old sitting independently for the first time or a

It Takes a Village | Summer Kids Camp 2016

July 11, 2016 lifeline
As I head home after a mere 36 hours at Kids Camp, I can’t help but stand in awe of the body of Christ at work… the body of Christ radiantly displayed in the life of 8 precious little girls from China. Part of my to-do list at camp today included enlisting the help of

Redeemed Hope |Summer Kids Camp 2016: Day 6

July 5, 2016 rachelmiley
I have started a draft for this blog three different times. Needless to say, I have many thoughts after my two days at Kids Camp. I could tell you about the medical visits or the trip to the Children’s Museum. Or I could share about the joy that came from water day and the Easter celebration. But none of that seems sufficient to share about my two days at Kids Camp.

Joyful Despite Difficulty | Summer Kids Camp 2016: Day 5

July 1, 2016 rachelmiley
These girls are beautiful children of God who were made in His image. Their experiences in their short lives have been incomprehensible to those of us who grew up in the States, and these experiences have left scars.

8 Prayers for Camp | Summer Kids Camp 2016: Day 4

July 1, 2016 rachelmiley
I was blessed to get to know eight little girls from China yesterday. These girls brought me great joy and grabbed my heart. They are no longer images on a postcard, but now voices, faces, hearts, and prayers.  The day began with breakfast, water games and slip-n-slide. With wet hair and happy faces, we went

The Church Responding (Summer Kid's Camp '16: Day 3)

June 29, 2016 rachelmiley
Yesterday I had the extreme privilege of spending the day with eight precious girls from China. As a social worker with Lifeline, this was not the first time I have served at Kids Camp, but this year was different. This year, the church that I attend decided to take on a day of Kids Camp. This might not sound like a big thing to you, but to our church, this was huge.

A Heart To Serve (Summer Kid's Camp 16' Day 2)

June 29, 2016 rachelmiley
I hadn’t been at camp long when little Leila captured my attention. She is 3 years old and has Downs Syndrome. She was perfectly content playing with three little Lincoln logs. I, however, was not content to let her! I wanted to hold her and play with her. Finally, someone holding Leila came near to me and I smiled and waived at her. She immediately threw open her arms and reached for me. That’s all it took….I was a puddle.

Meet Kindra (March Kids Camp '16)

March 29, 2016
During my time volunteering at Kids Camp I got to meet so many amazing, sweet kids.  I really connected with one particular girl, Kindra, which I believe happened because I saw a lot of my tendencies in her.  Like me, Kindra was more on the shy side and didn’t talk much. We easily fell into

I can’t believe that Kids Camp is over… in a few short hours the children who have become so dear to my heart will board a plane for China. I know I will never see many of them again, but they will certainly remain in my thoughts and prayers for quite some time. These kids

McWane Center (March Kids Camp '16: Day 8)

March 18, 2016
One of my favorite things is when children have the opportunity to simply act like children. And, there is almost no better place for this than the McWane Center. At the McWane Center, children are given a safe environment to touch all of the things that they are always told not to touch and do

Atlanta Road Trip (March Kids Camp '16: Day 6)

March 17, 2016
They were the sweetest little things singing and dancing to music praising the Lord. They may not have known what they were singing, but the Lord can use all things to reveal Himself, and draw His children to Him.

Freedom (March Kids Camp '16: Day 7)

March 17, 2016
As the children hear each story and experience each moment, we pray that she’s right – that they “get it” – and that they are coming closer to understanding the gift of the Gospel. There are so many new and different things that we are excited to show our campers, but the most exciting thing we have to offer is the love of Jesus.

Merry Christmas (March Kids Camp'16: Day 3)

It brings me great comfort to know God knows each and every one of these little ones. He created them and knows them by name. How I long for them to know their Heavenly Father that loves them endlessly.

*Naomi is not currently eligible for adoption through Lifeline* I am confident in these things: Naomi is a brave, intelligent, creative, generous, intuitive, and compassionate soul. She is a natural leader and loving nurturer. Talk about love that transcends culture and language! What a holy gift that was for me.
