THERAPEUTIC TEEN GROUPS
For teens aged 12 – 16
Teens who have been touched by domestic or international adoption , either directly or through siblings, have experienced things that most of their peers can’t relate to. Lifeline Counseling is currently offering two groups: One for adoptees, and one for siblings of adoptees:
ADOPTEE GROUP TOPICS
Identity—What does it mean about who I am that I’m adopted?
Grief and loss related to adoption
Race and culture
Learning to identify and cope with feelings
Parents will receive guidance on how to continue conversations.
SIBLING GROUP TOPICS
Living with adoption
Space to be honest about challenges
Connecting with others going through the same struggles
Teens who are struggling with the issues outlined above should consider these groups. Groups are closed and limited to 8-12 participants, organized by the age and skill level of interested teens.
An initial screening with parents is conducted via phone to ensure that the group is a good fit for each individual. Issues related to development and aggression will be taken into consideration to ensure the safety of participants.
The adoptee group will be offered on Tuesdays from 1-3 pm on the following dates:
May 29, June 5, 12, 19, 26, July 10, 17, & 24
The sibling group will be offered on Thursdays from 1-3 pm on the following dates: May 31, June 7, 14, 21, 28, July 12, 19, & 26.
**We understand that with it being summer, some participants may need to miss certain weeks. The cost for this unique therapeutic group will be $15.00 per child per session.
