Lifeline Children’s Services began a pilot program to place children from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2011. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a country located in Central Africa with a population of 71 million, making it one of the most populous nations in the world. It is boarded by countries such as The Congo, Rwanda, and South Sudan. The official language is French and Christianity is the major religion. The Congo River is the second longest river in Africa and flows through the capital city of Kinshasa making it a city of sharp contrasts. Due to numerous African wars, much of the people of DRC have been afflicted and struggled to provide their basic needs.
